Often times the simplest things are the things that add more energy into your day.
In this video today, I want to share with you one of my favourite energy boosting tips… all to do with getting thoughts out on paper.
I have been an avid journaller for years. Sometimes I have journalled every day, sometimes every month, and some years I have started and given up.
But this I know to be true, when I journal regularly –at least 4 or 5 times a week, my world just seems to run better.
I love the practise of journaling for one reason – it gets your thoughts out of your head and onto paper.
So much happens to us in a day, without us even realising it, and a lot of that stuff we actually forget.
I often think that there is really on a certain amount of space we have in our brain for remembering 4things, and when that space is taken up – there is no more!! … that’s why we forget things – well that’s my theory and I am sticking right with it.
The process of journalling is cathartic. Just the process of getting thoughts out of your mind can release stress, give clarity and often helps you make sense of things that may be frustrating or confusing.
As I blogged about last week, we have over 50,000 thoughts per day and many of can be disempowering thoughts
When you become regular journaler one of the things that happens is that you start to see patterns in your thoughts and in your actions. It starts to make sense of some of the things that happen in your life
And what I love most of all, is reading over my journals from years past. So many things funny things the kids have said, so many memories about my own thoughts and feelings and what I love most of all is the memories of great holidays – all things I had forgotten about, but thank goodness because of journalling I have kept safe to remember.
So as we are now reaching the middle of the year, why not commit to journalling… you can either buy a book dedicated to journalling – such as this one, or just grab an A4 sized hard cover book next time you are out shopping.
So 3 tips to make jounalling work for you
1. Set aside 5 – 10 mintues a day at the same time. I find that writing in the morning after meditation is perfect for me, but many people also like to journal at night. It’s all about creating a habit, so what ever works for you
2. Don’t worry about what you write, just put the pen to paper and start. Some of the most wonderful ideas and memories have flowed when I just started writing, without thinking about grammar or the correct language
3. Keep your journal somewhere safe, where other’s won’t find it. You wont’ write honestly if you you have any concern about others reading it.
